Abdominal work
Quite often I mention about abdominals and hip flexors when explaining an exercise. Could be when working with kettlebells, Pilates, Yoga, lifting weights or even running. They play an important role in stabilizing and moving your hips, thighs, and spine.
A classical example is a Pilates exercise called “Roll Up” on which if we break down the action of the muscles in a simple way, the abdominals start flexing your spine and stabilizing it so the hip flexors can move your hips and spine altogether. Can you imagine it? If you haven’t studied anatomy or biomechanics probably not.
On the video below you can understand a little more the biomechanics of those muscles so next time you do a similar movement it’s a little easier to imagine them working and move your body correctly.
The video shows the technique for a sit up (it’s not the “Roll Up” on Pilates).
